Il n’y a rien à voir à Las Vegas, excepté Las Vegas blvd et ses hôtels casinos. Ce sont les plus grands du monde (souvent 4 ou 5000 chambres) et la décoration est délirante : pyramide d’Egypte, Tour Eiffel, Palais des Doges, Empire State Building, etc. C’est comme un grand Disneyland et évidemment ca plait beaucoup aux enfants.

L’avantage de visiter Death Valley en cette saison est qu’il y fait frais, pas plus de 35 degrés à l’ombre(!), mais… il n’y a pas d’ombre. Comme le camping ne tentait personne, on a atterri dans un hôtel à Death Valley Junction, et encore une fois on est tombés sur un endroit étonnant : un ancien bâtiment d’une compagnie minière au milieu de nulle part qui a été racheté et reconverti en opéra-hôtel par Marta Becket. Elle y joue, chante, danse et peint depuis plus de 40 ans. Louisa est devenue une grande fan et elle conserve soigneusement la photo dédicacée de Marta.

En arrivant à Los Angeles, on a eu l’impression de rentrer à Nice : Ciel bleu, palmiers, bougainvillées. C’était bien agréable après 3 semaines dans la poussière. Et on s’est promis d’offrir un carwash à notre petite Windstar pour la remercier de nous avoir amenés jusque là, on n’aurait pas aimé rester en panne au fin fond de  l’Arizona ou dans la Vallée de la Mort.   

There’s nothing to se in Vegas except the Las Vegas blvd and its incredible hotels-casinos: Egyptian pyramid, Eiffel Tower, San Marco Plaza, Empire State Building. Everything is possible and it seems like a huge Disneyland. Of course kids enjoy it.

Then we visited Death Valley and in this season it’s pretty cool, not more than 35 degrees! After 2 weeks in the parks nobody wanted to camp anymore, so we found a hotel in Death Valley Junction. It’s an amazing place, a former mining company office building that Marta Becket bought and transformed in an opera house and hotel. She’s been singing dancing and playing there for over 40 years, in the middle of nowhere. Louisa was very proud to get a photo and autograph from Marta.

When we arrived in LA it seems to us that we were back home in Nice: blue sky, palm trees, bougainvilleas. It was really nice after having spent 3 weeks in the dust. And we promised to bring our Windstar to a carwash to thank it, nobody would like to breakdown in Arizona or in Death Valley!
